Fire Alarms/Detection

Heat/Smoke Detectors

Heat detectors are triggered by either the temperature rising above a pre-set level or if the temperature rises rapidly in a short space of time. Smoke detectors operate by optical detection, ionisation, or both, which are called combination alarms. In commercial and public buildings the device would be connected to either an independent fire alarm system or built in as part of the monitored security package.

Domestic devices are usually battery powered and have a built-in siren, although they are now becoming increasingly hard wired into the electrical system with battery back-up.
