Wired home CCTV systems are the most traditional system used in larger properties. The key difference between this type of system and wireless options is the source of power, which with hardwire solutions is continuous and permanent. Unlike wireless, wired CCTV requires cables for power, video transmission and internet connection. This can normally be done through a cable that connects your camera to the recorder, going all the way through to your router.
Hardwire CCTV systems are also known for their great reliability. This means that, although installation time is longer compared to wireless, wired CCTV may not be as susceptible to signal conditions. Larger homes tend to need a more comprehensive coverage, where CCTV is spread across large areas and cameras are above a certain number. Hardwire systems are a more convenient alternative in these circumstances, as these can support a large number of cameras, a higher link needs to exist between all of them and dependability on wireless coverage is significantly minimised.
